How to Choose the Right BJJ School for You and Your Kids

Choosing the right Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) school for you and your kids can be a challenging task, but it's essential to ensure that you get the most out of your training and investment. Here are some tips to help you choose the right BJJ school:

    1. Location: Choose a school that is convenientlyfor you and your children. This will make it easier to attend classes regularly.

    2. Instructor Qualifications: Look for a school with qualified instructors who have extensive experience and credentials in BJJ. They should also have a good reputation in the BJJ community. Is the head instructor a black belt? In a BJJ school, the  Head instructor is the most important. Look at the professor – does he compete?  If the head instructor is an active competitor or was an active competitor, then the class will benefit from a competition setting. The instructor’s lineage is another important thing to consider -- who did the instructor learn from and their origins. When you’re visiting a school also try to figure out whether the instructor’s teaching style meshes well with your personal learning style.

    3. Curriculum and Affiliation of School. Choose a school that offers a structured curriculum that covers all aspects of BJJ. This will ensure that you and your kids receive a well-rounded education in the art.

    4. Class Size, Structure, and Types. Look for a school that has a class size that allows for individual attention from the instructors. This will help ensure that you and your kids receive personalized instruction and feedback.

    5. Safety and Cleanliness: Choose a school that prioritizes safety and has a clean and well-maintained facility. The instructors should also emphasize safe training practices. Here at Global1BJJ, we clean our mats at least once a day with disinfectant solution. Cleanliness is a top priority in order to avoid fungal infections, bacterial infections MRSA, as well as viral infections such as Respiratory Syncytial Virus and Coronavirus Disease 2019. The mats, as well as the environment must be in clean, sanitary condition. And Doctor/Professor Kevin Lam has set up the protocol for cleaning as well as the solutions for such, with meticulous care being given to make sure that the mats are clean for our students.

    6. Community: Look for a school that has a positive and welcoming community. BJJ is a social activity, and training with like-minded people can be beneficial for motivation and support.

    7. Trial Classes: Finally, try out a few different BJJ schools before committing. Most schools offer trial classes, which will give you and your kids a chance to experience the school and instructors firsthand.

By considering these factors, you can find a BJJ school that is the right fit for you and your kids, and one that will help you achieve your training goals.
