Law Enforcement Officers Turn to Brazilian Jiu-jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu for law enforcers is now being recognized as having great benefits for mental and physical health.

There are instances where police take a suspect into custody and find themselves injured in the process. Sometimes, the suspect gets seriously hurt while being apprehended. For cops, a  significant amount of the training time often focus on strikes and attaining submission through physical pain.

With Jiu-jitsu, law enforcement officers might be surprised to learn how one can easily control without using strikes or blows.  BJJ teaches you how to effectively control suspects by proper techniques in grappling.

The aim of BJJ in law enforcement is to decrease the use of deadly force by training officers in alternative ways to control suspects. With improved grappling skills, officers gain confidence. BJJ does not involve punches, strikes, or kicks. Dealing with suspects can now focus more on de-escalating violence rather than striking force.

Confident officers won’t need to hit, punch, or escalate their way out of an encounter. Furthermore, officers who appear competent and calm during arrest would reinforce public trust. Police officers who are trained in BJJ were found to be less likely to be injured or to seriously injure suspects during an arrest.

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu training for police officers can help minimize injuries as well as increase public trust.

The concept of BJJ training for cops is quickly catching on. More and more legislators are pushing for measured to include jiujitsu for all law enforcement.

Adopt a Cop is a BJJ program that coordinates with Brazilian Jiu-jitsu academies such as Global Jiu jitsu, a Southwest Florida Brazilian Jiu jitsu school, to allow police officers to train for free. This leads to better trained law enforcers who are knowledgeable in different methods of effective policing and ultimately save lives. It is intended to help support active duty uniformed patrol officers that interact daily with the public.
