Did you know that 1 out of 4 students are bullied?

In the United States, it is reported that one in every 4 kids are being bullied. It has become a constant problem and this affects thousands of children each day. In the long-term, this can have a negative impact on the health and well-being of these young people.

• A child is being bullied every 7 minutes in the school playground
• The majority of kids bullying occurs at school, on the school grounds after classes, and even on the school bus
• Around 160,000 teens have skipped school due to bullying.
• 7 out of 10 students claim to have witnessed bullying in school and agree that violence increased in their schools and that bullying is a problem
• 4 out of 10 students who reported being bullied at school are worried and believe that the bullying would happen again.
• Peer intervention against bullying is only 11% while adult intervention is merely 4%. No intervention at all is a staggering 85%.
• Bullied students reported that bullying occurred in the following places:
o the hallway or stairwell at school (43%)
o inside the classroom (42%)
o in the cafeteria (27%)
o outside on school grounds (22%)
o online or by text (15%)
o in the bathroom or locker room (12%)

One of the first steps in addressing this problem is making students aware about bullying and what their rights are at school. Concrete steps should be taken to prevent bullying before it starts and immediately putting a stop to bullying when it happens.

Children should recognize bullying and that many times, they have the power to stop it. Staying silent about bullying will only make it worse.

Martial arts is one highly effective tool for bully prevention that parents can offer their children. Brazilian Jiujitsu is among the martial arts in which kids can learn to defend themselves. BJJ is unique in that it is more on techniques and not on strength, making it suitable to subdue even a larger opponent.

One of the concerns of parents is that BJJ might make their kids want to fight. Fighting never comes first in Brazilian Jiujitsu. Respect, confidence, humility, and kindness are emphasized in training.

Martial arts has its roots in self-defense but it also teaches kids that violence is not the answer. Because it focuses on leverage techniques and submission holds to gain control instead of punching and kicking, it is considered a more peaceful approach to defending oneself.

Global Brazilian jiu-jitsu helps kids develop self-confidence so they can overcome bullies without resorting to violence. This makes kids become secure of themselves in any confrontation. Our kids bullyproof BJJ program teaches them to be masters of their own actions and emotions. Kids Brazilian Jiu jitsu teaches focus, discipline, self-control, and respect but kids and teens also learn how to stand up for themselves with confidence and authority.
